Responsibilities: The pastor works under the supervision of the Holy Spirit and is responsible to the Church for proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for conducting pastoral care ministries to meet the needs of Church members as well as those of the local community and for providing administrative oversight of ministerial staff and their programs.  More specifically, the pastor is responsible for the following:
  1. Demonstrating the life of pastoral conduct with love in word, deed and spirit in all relationships to the church and the community (I Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and I Peter 5:1-4);
  2. Leading the Church in seeking to win the unsaved to the Lord Jesus Christ.  He shall consider preaching the Bible as his primary work and shall adjust all other duties and time demands so as not to hinder his preaching or his preparation for it;
  3. Exercising a personal ministry of prayer that he may be prepared spiritually to fulfill the responsibilities of his office;
  4. Maintaining a regular program of Bible study that leads to meaningful worship services and an effective evangelism ministry (II Timothy 4:1-5);
  5. Preparing and conducting worship services; leading in observance of the ordinances;
  6. Ministering to the spiritual needs of the members such as visiting the sick, shut-ins, and hospitalized; he shall be available to minister in sickness, death, disaster or other crisis as called and needed;
  7. Conducting premarital, family and bereavement counseling for members of the Church and community as requested and to the extent that his professional abilities and time demands permit;
  8. Performing wedding ceremonies and conducting funerals as requested provided such requests do not violate his convictions or church policies;
  9. Serving all members with faithfulness and fairness, respecting the rights and privileges of fellow members in all matters, and seeking to maintain the harmony of the Church without compromising Holy Scriptures;
  10. Serving as a representative of the Church in civic matters.  He shall be free to serve in worthy community organizations but shall not allow civic responsibilities to detract or hinder his pastoral duties or to reflect negatively on his reputation as a minister;
  11. Abiding by and being faithful to the Church Covenant;
  12. Acting as Moderator for Church business meetings; and
  13. Providing overall leadership to the ministerial staff and general oversight to the entire work of the Church.  He shall be an ex-officio member of all Church organizations and committees.

Qualifications: The pastor shall possess the following qualifications:
  1. Demonstrated personal conduct that reflects the qualifications of I Timothy 3:1-7;
  2. A thorough knowledge of Holy Scriptures through seminary or similar studies or   through a combination of such studies and pastoral experience;
  3. The husband of one wife, never divorced, and whose wife has never been divorced;
  4. Faithful in tithing;
  5. Ordinated (or willing to be ordained) as a Southern Baptist minister.
